~*Jeremy and Joy*~How we met
I had just gotten to my first duty station - Travis Air Force Base. The family had left and I hadn't made any friends yet. I was done unpacking and organizing my dorm room just the way I wanted it. I stepped outside just to ... well step outside. (I think I actually smoked a cigarette [a Black-n-Mild to be exact] - lol – I think I really only went outside because I knew I wouldn't meet anyone from the inside of my room!) So there I was sitting there on the floor in front of my window... my door wide open. I was so happy ... so proud that I was finally done with Basic Training and Tech School. I was motivated to work and learn even more ... I was finally apart of the "Operational Air Force". For some reason though... I was feeling shy. It obviously wasn't like high school. Realizing… that I was in this new place away from everything and everyone I knew. Not to mention... everyone I would come in contact with (at this base) would probably be older and wiser than me. I was a bit intimidated. I hear some music in the distance... a group of people barbequing I guess. I knew in time I would be apart of a group of friends...I hoped that soon someone would reach out to me because I was the new girl on the block and really wasn't sure where to start.
As I was thinking about going back inside … I look up to the right and the sun is kind of bright. I see a shadow of a person walking up to me. Finally I see that it’s a fairly tall man with the friendliest smile. It wasn't too big. It wasn't too small. But it was definitely genuine and sweet. He introduced himself and just started talking to me as if we knew each other forever or maybe in another life. At first I was shy and just giggled and smiled like a silly girl – haha. But the more he talked and asked me questions… I eased up. He invited me to go hang out…
… and that’s how we met… he approached me … the “new girl” … the “no stripe troop” living on the first floor of the dorms. I was about 4 doors down from him… and after that we were at each other’s rooms everyday. Just 3 weeks felt like 3 years the way we got deep… we became extremely close extremely fast. Never became so close to anyone that quickly … not even till this day.
